Defense methinks

I want to address some of the criticisms that have been bandied around about my nights at the minute...not to have a dig but to explain things a little more clearly...

Firstly thats bollocks....I have played brand new New found Glory,Murderdolls,Stone Sour,Down the Sun,Silverchair etc...before their releases...but I admit I dont play a lot...and thats mainly because it is 100% request,most people are not as into a brand new track.....and also bear in mind...whats new to one person is not new to another...it isnt a majority that actively seeks out new bands...
"You say its 100% request..but you refuse to take requests after a certain time"
I actually thought this was a twatty comment,because this actually proves that it is...if there are 150 people in a club...and every one made a request I wouldnt be able to play it,so if 50 people make a request before 10.30,then chances are my list will be full by 11.30...that was sort o the point..if you wanted to hear something,then ask early...I wont lie and say I will play it and then not do (although granted I have forgotten once or twice due to heavy alchohol consumption)

More bollocks..I like pretty much all forms of rock music...there are some I dont like,but play them anyway...because they are requested,but my tastes....I like bands that I never play...apart from on occasion as the doors are opening...and then Im more likely to play a new cd I have been sent to hear what it sounds like.Stuff like Corrosion of Conformity and Skid row are among my favourites...and I can count on my fingers the amount of time I have played them in 3 years.
As for the select few...aagin thats crap...Im sure percy etc will tell you then same..I actually play less for them than I do others,I do have a rule of 2 reuests per person/group per night when its busy...cos I do want to give fair rise to lots of people,in fact I am more likely to play requests for someone I dont like/doesnt like me,because if that person goes away happy,then I am doing a good job.And that has happened a lot........

I never considered myself like that...if thats a perception...then I would like to change it..but its not deliberate...nor acknowledged.

I dont consider that to be true at all...certain songs do get asked for a lot...but dont get played if they arent...sort of goes back to what I was saying earlier...eg Refused New Noise,because its lack of mainstream exposure(I know its occasionally been on Mtv2,but not a lot) has been played loads...and it becomes a new persons favourite song etc...while some others have been into it for fucking years.The music I play changes a lot...I have videos from rock nights past...and it has changed loads since then...even Park Lane....although the tracks do tend to be similar in 3 month blocks,cos with new releases..many dont have a shelf life.
It all boils down to atmosphere,not just a dancefloor and the only thing I do is tinker with the order to get things going better.I migfht get asked for something like New Found Glory-My friends over you at the beginning of the night,but I wont play it til later cos it will be requested again..and it would go down better sandwiched between bands such as Less than Jake etc.I try to get the minority based stuff out the way early...because they not only kill a dancefloor,but kill an atmosphere,which is why I get annoyed by a certain wanker who asks for something at quarter past one,knowing im full and knowing it doesnt go down well...and moan like fuck if I refuse,and not bother acknowledging it if I do...a catch 22.
You cant please everybody all the time,but I do try.
I welcome any critcisms,although try to be constructive...and I do take them on board.If you say it to me..it works better,cos then I know who isnt happy with it and try and do something about it.

Ps I am on about Park Lane..I understand people have issues with Matrix that are fuck all to do with me and I can only pray they improve.

Some people dont like going in because they feel many of the regulars are snidy and insulting...can't really defend it cos I know its true,Ive seen it happen...but thats down to them....

even tho i dont hardly go to any of ur nites (coz of work and shit [img]frown.gif[/img] ) or the matrix, i can understand what ur sayin...espec a combi of new songs and dance floor killin! people do wanna hear new shit but its bound to kill the floor coz no-ones heard it b4! and the minor few wouldnt wanna go and make too much of a prick of themselves. so u cant win there either! lol
but id give ants my vote coz he can only do what others say! u cant blame him for what others want playin...just get there early and hear it

It's like I understand what Ant's is saying and he has said it to me before. I know that most people don't know the tracks I take/request and although me dancing does provide some entertainment it would kill the atmosphere if played later so I get there at opening and have my tracks played before most people get there. Yeah sometimes my sort of stuff is played a bit later but it is only when there are alot of people into it there and the dancefloor will be filled. You just gotta repect what Ant's is trying to do and give him a hand instead of causing trouble for him. I have spoken to alot of people from all over and our rock night is envied by most because of the great mix of new, classic and less well known stuff because they don't get it, especially in major cities. I can't understand why people can't just go out and have fun cos I do even when I don't like most of the music played but it's not worth getting in a mood about. When you do that you are simply showing yourself up to be the little children that you are.

It isnt you or any of the punk crowd its certain people that sit there all smug and seem to enjoy making everyone feel uncomfortable....Im not mentioning names...cos Im not trying to start a witch hunt or cause aggro..Im mentioning it to show those that do feel like this that there is someone on their side.

Rach I sort of know what you mean..but it aint scene snobbery in the matrix..it just down to certain people being downright unpleasant.

I often feel relaxed in there but there are a lot of people that are vicious and genuinly trying to cause problems for me...fuck them...I can fucking wait and revenge will be oh so sweet.
